Commander's Message

2008-2009 Commander

Greetings Fellow Sword Members,

Pocket City Order No. 82 of the Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill would personally like to invite you to attend the four upcoming meetings scheduled for the 2008-2009 fiscal year.  Our next meeting will take place on Thursday, February 19, 2009.  With all of our meetings, doors open no later than 5:30 PM at the No-Ruz Grotto in downtown Evansville, with the initiation starting promptly at 7:00 PM.  There is always a light dinner following the conferral of the Order.   

We started off our new fiscal year by initiating 23 candidates into our Order on Oct. 23, 2008.  We were fortunate to have many of the Hadi Shrine Divan members in attendance that night and initiated Ken Mitz, who currently serves as Captain of the Guard for the Hadi Shrine.  We presented Dr. Thomas Scholl with his fifty-year membership certificate and made Robert Pool, Grand Monarch of the Grottoes of North America, an honorary member of our Order.  We were also very excited to have had several Past Commanders in attendance at night, including Donald Morgan, Dennis Susott, and Darren Engelhardt.  

We would also like to ask for your help in recruiting new members.  Please help by spreading the word about our organization and by inviting friends and fellow lodge brothers to our meetings.  If they do not know anything about our great organization, invite them to join us and be prepared to learn more about our Masonic forefathers and the significance they had in establishing our great nation than they could ever imagine.  There is no paperwork for them to fill out ahead of time, just have them show up and bring the $25.00 lifetime membership fee and their current lodge dues card.  Candidates must be Master Masons in good standing of their respected lodges.  You will find our meeting dates for the upcoming year on the enclosed flyer. 

On behalf of myself and the Pocket City Order Officers, we would like to congratulate Darren Engelhardt on a fantastic job as our 2007-2008 Commander.  Under his leadership we added several new members to our roster.  Since our local founding date in 1947, Pocket City has initiated close to 5,000 members.
