William E. Wenger
1933-Present

(6th) Most Honorable Grand Commander in Chief
Served: 1999-2006

William E. Wenger was raised a Master Mason in July 1947. He joined the Scottish Rite Valley of Freeport, Illinois in 1955, the Tebala Shrine in 1957, and the York Rite 1990. 

Wenger is a Past Master of Winnebago Lodge #745 (1989), and a Past Potentate of Tebala Shrine (1991). 

He participates in 13 different degrees at Freeport, and achieved the 33rd Degree in 1986. 

He became the Honorable Grand Commander in Chief of Blackhawk Order #8, Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill, located in Stockton, IL. in 1982. On July 30, 1999, he replaced John C. Belmar as the Most Honorable Grand Commander in Chief, of the Grand Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill.

William Wenger installed Bob L. Bonds, Pocket City Order No. 82, as Most Honorable Grand Commander in Chief on July 22, 2006.  Wenger was then appointed as Most Honorable Grand Treasurer by the newly appointed Bob Bonds.  

Due to the untimely death of the Most Honorable Grand Commander in Chief, Bob Bonds in April 2007, William Wenger assumed the role as Interim Most Honorable Grand Commander in Chief until the 2007 Grand Order Session.  In August 2007, Wenger appointed Walter W. Doyle, Ozark Order No. 109, to be his successor.  Wenger returned to his position of Most Honorable Grand Treasurer after this appointment.

Bill and his wife Joan have been married for over 60 years, and they have two married sons and three grandsons.
